Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, said on Monday that voters in Budgam are looking for alternatives to the National Conference (NC) and its family-led politics.

He spoke to reporters while accompanying BJP candidate Aga Mohsin, who filed his nomination for the upcoming by-election.

Sharma said the NC has repeatedly failed the people and that its recent policy reversals, including on smart meters, show inconsistency in governance. “People are fed up with NC slavery and are now seeking alternatives,” he said, referring to the party’s long-standing dominance in the region.

He added that the Abdullah family has maintained control over politics in Kashmir for decades. “A big fight has begun against family dominance.
