The Congress party has announced a total of 61 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, with the latest list released on Monday, October 20, 2025. This includes seven candidates, following a previous list of six candidates announced just after midnight. The party is facing challenges in finalising a seat-sharing agreement with its alliance partner, the RJD, as both parties struggle to reach a consensus.
Among the candidates announced, Surendra Prasad Kushwaha will contest from Valmiki Nagar, Abidur Rehman from Araria, Jalil Mastan from Amour, Tauquir Alam from Barari, Praveen Singh Kushwaha from Kahalgaon, and Vinod Chaudhary from Sikandra (SC). Additionally, Minnat Rahmani has been fielded from the Supaul Assembly segment.
The Congress has reduced its number of contested seats from 70 in the last elections to 61 this time. Tensions within the INDIA bloc have surfaced, with some disgruntled candidates from both the RJD and Congress accusing the leadership of selling tickets. The deadline for filing nomination papers for the second and final phase of elections is also today.
Earlier, the Congress released its first list of 48 candidates on October 16, featuring state unit chief Rajesh Ram from the Kutumba seat and CLP leader Shakeel Ahmad Khan from Kadwa. The party also announced Rishi Mishra from Jale on October 17 and five more candidates on October 18. The ongoing developments highlight the complexities of the electoral landscape in Bihar as the elections approach.
