Masses of Halifax, Lloyds and Bank of Scotland users across the country have been experiencing issues this morning (October 20) due to a worldwide 'internet blackout'. The disruption is affecting Amazon Web Services (AWS), which supports numerous online platforms, and has resulted in a noticeable increase in reported outages across various internet services, including certain banks.

Downdetector, a platform that monitors complaints about online services, indicated a surge in reports that started around 8am Monday morning. There were more than 2,680 reports for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and 500 issues reported for the HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) website by 9am.
