The New Hampshire Supreme Court has affirmed a ruling by the State Board of Education requiring the Pittsfield School District to pay tuition for a student to attend Prospect Mountain High School in Alton.

In 2009, state lawmakers passed a law that allowed public school boards to vote to accept students from other school districts in New Hampshire. Prospect Mountain High School adopted this policy of “open enrollment,” but the Pittsfield School District did not take such a vote.

A student, identified in court paperwork as ‘E.A.’, lives in Pittsfield, but in 2023 applied and was accepted for admission to Prospect Mountain into its 10th-grade class for the 2023-2024 school year.
