TEXAS – A widespread Amazon Web Services outage disrupted thousands of websites and online services Monday morning, affecting major platforms including Venmo, Hulu and McDonald’s.
AWS first reported the “operational issue” at 2:11 a.m., with the cloud computing giant later indicating significant progress in restoring services.
The outage impacted AWS’s remote computing services, which power numerous companies and universities across the country.
Downdetector, a website tracking internet disruptions, documented problems with dozens of major sites, including Amazon’s own platforms, Coinbase and other popular services.
AWS engineers identified a potential root cause for the error rates and are currently working through a backlog of queued requests.
