Lake High School Athletic Director Brock Cline released a statement late Sunday, Oct. 19 updating the health status of Blue Streaks football player Justin Landes. The senior was seriously injured during a play in the third quarter of Lake's win over Hoover on Friday, Oct. 17 .

According to Cline's statement, Landes was "evaluated on-site by sports medicine staff from both schools" before being transported to Akron Children’s Hospital by the Uniontown Fire Department.

Once at Akron Children's, it was determined "Justin had sustained a laceration of his right kidney," the statement said.

"On Saturday evening (Oct. 18), Justin underwent a successful surgery to address the laceration of the kidney and internal bleeding. During the operation, Justin’s surgical team identified an addition
