Details are emerging regarding the shocking death of former Buccaneers running back Doug Martin, with the East Bay Times reporting his passing came while in police custody.

Martin, who passed away on Saturday morning at the age of 36, was in a hospital in Oakland, Calif., after police were responding to a 4:15 a.m. ET home break-in allegedly involving Martin.

After the break-in, police responded to a home near the Oakland Zoo where the suspect was already having a “medical emergency” and then a “brief struggle” ensued.

The former Buccaneers and Raiders star reportedly resisted arrest when police attempted to detain him, became unresponsive and was transported to a hospital, where he later died, according to Oakland’s local Fox affiliate .
