The mother of a Portland man killed a decade ago behind a downtown nightclub continues to grieve and to seek answers to the unsolved murder.

“I haven’t been able to rest. I haven’t been able to live my life,” said Taunya Mayo, whose son Dion Matthews Jr. was fatally shot the night of Oct. 18, 2015. “I feel it in my heart, in my spirit, that people know something.”

Portland police renewed a call for help solving the crime on Saturday, the anniversary of Matthews’ death.

Matthews, 23, was found lying face down with gunshot wounds in the parking of Dante’s on West Burnside Street at about 11:15 p.m., according to police. He had just left a concert that Sunday evening, Mayo said.

Witnesses told police they saw people running away and cars speeding off just after the shooting. Detectives
