The Fall River Fire Department has released a comprehensive review of the fire that killed 10 residents of an assisted-living facility earlier this year.
The Gabriel House fire, the state’s deadliest blaze in more than four decades, highlighted the lack of regulations governing assisted-living facilities that often care for low-income or disabled residents. The state fire marshal said the July 13 fire was unintentionally caused by either someone smoking or an electrical issue with an oxygen machine. The blaze left some residents of the three-story building hanging out windows and screaming for help.
