The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office at a home on Bankston Road in Nesbit.

According to MBI, deputies responded to a noise complaint at the home. When they arrived, a group of individuals told deputies that a person at the residence had been discharging a weapon.

Deputies located the subject fleeing into a nearby wooded area. Authorities say the subject later emerged and displayed a weapon toward deputies, and deputies fired. The subject died from their injuries. No deputies were physically hurt.

MBI says agents are assessing the incident and gathering evidence. Once the investigation is complete, findings will be shared with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
