A person has died after being hit by a train in Maidstone this afternoon (Monday, October 20). Southeastern confirmed shortly before 2pm that services had been halted between Strood and Maidstone West following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Emergency services were called to the scene, including officers from the British Transport Police (BTP). Despite the best efforts of responders, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for BTP said: “Officers were called at around 1.20pm today (20 October) to reports of a casualty on the tracks at a level crossing in Maidstone. Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
