For the first time in 25 years, Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly members will see a pay increase — but not until 2026.
The borough assembly voted 9–0 on Oct. 14 to adopt Ordinance 2025-23, which raises the monthly compensation for assembly members from $400 to $550, and for the assembly president from $500 to $650. The change will take effect July 1, 2026, aligning with the start of the borough’s 2027 fiscal year.
Assembly President Peter Ribbens, who sponsored the ordinance, said the adjustment recognizes the significant time commitment assembly members dedicate to reading meeting materials, attending public meetings, and engaging with constituents. The current compensation rate has been unchanged since October 2000, when the borough last approved an increase.
