Halloween came early in Maranatha Church auditorium Saturday evening as the Hastings County Concert Band performed its final concert for the current season.

In keeping with past performances, the band opened with a fanfare for O Canada, played as background against a spoken tribute by the two vocal soloists, Sonya Zaback and youthful Kingston vocalist Kyra Daniel, before bringing the audience to its feet to sing the anthem.

Music for a Darkened Theatre, featuring selections from spooky movie sound tracksm with weird percussion effects and strange harmonies.

Then from the Les Miserable musical, Zaback sang, I Dreamed a Dream in a powerful performance.

A cute and feisty number in keeping with the season was Abracadabra, by Frank Ticheli, also involving weird harmonies and special effect
