In a major pre-festive crackdown, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized Chinese-origin firecrackers worth Rs 4.82 crore during a covert operation code-named “Operation Fire Trail."

The operation, carried out by the agency’s Mumbai Zonal Unit, exposed a sophisticated smuggling network attempting to push banned fireworks into India.

Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted a 40-foot container at Nhava Sheva Port, which had been declared as carrying “leggings."

The shipment had originated from China and was destined for the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Ankleshwar , Gujarat. Upon thorough inspection, officers discovered the container concealed 46,640 pieces of firecrackers and fireworks, hidden behind a superficial layer
