Labour has announced £12,000 fines "per vehicle" as strict EV targets risk stinging major car brands. At least 80 per cent of new car sales need to be electric by the end of the decade.

And car manufacturers face big fines - worth £12,000 - for falling short of the Labour Party government Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate. Labour has confirmed that manufacturers can be charged £12,000 per car and £15,000 per van.

Labour Party Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said the Government was supporting the EV industry and helping cut costs for motorists. "Our discounts have sparked a surge in electric car sales, making them cheaper and within reach of more households than ever before," she added.
