Certain dog and cat foods have been recalled after the companies discovered they could be contaminated with salmonella, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Salmonella bacteria can sicken animals eating the food and people handling the products, the FDA warns.
Symptoms in people may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. In rare scenarios, salmonella can lead to more serious complications. Infected pets could experience lethargy, diarrhea or blood diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite and abdominal pain.
Two companies are involved in the voluntary recalls, Raw Bistro Pet Fare and Foodynamics.
