PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Oregon lawmakers sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem asking to withdraw federal agents deployed to Portland’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility.

In the letter, sent October 16, Congresswomen Janelle Bynum (OR-05), Suzanne Bonamici (OR-01), Maxine Dexter (OR-03) and Oregon Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, made the withdrawal request amid “reports of agents’ excessive use of force that’s needlessly and dangerously inciting violence,” the lawmakers said in a press release detailing the letter.

According to the lawmakers, federal agents have “needlessly” used tear gas against protestors outside of the ICE facility.
