PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Monday is the deadline for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to respond to a letter from Oregon lawmakers demanding answers about the helicopters flying over Portland.
According to the letter from Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley, sent Oct. 14, residents have seen the helicopters daily, for several hours a day, since at least Sept. 27. The letter was also signed by Reps. Suzanne Bonamici and Maxine Dexter.
These helicopters have frequented the area south of downtown Portland — near the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility — and in the inner-Southeast Brooklyn neighborhood.
The lawmakers claimed that the Port of Portland had received more than 40 complaints related to the noise in two days. That is more than four times the amount of complaints
