That was Game 2 of the wild-card series — as in, the game in which the Blue Jays blew an 8-1 lead and suffered a soul-crushing, history-making loss. Kirby, fresh off his rookie season with the Mariners, came in to close that game. He pitched one hitless innings and celebrated atop the Rogers Centre mound. In that moment, Toronto’s season came to an end.
