Police in Haldimand County have a new tool that could dramatically reduce the time it takes to find residents with dementia or autism who wander away from home.

Tracking technology pioneered by a non-profit organization called Project Lifesaver can, in some cases, reduce a typical search for a missing person from about four hours to less than 30 minutes.

“Project Lifesaver is about reuniting families,” Haldimand OPP Insp. Andrew Fox said during a launch event in Cayuga on Thursday.

“It offers reassurance to caregivers and loved ones that if a vulnerable individual goes missing, trained responders and proven technology are ready to assist.”
