Two LSU defensive backs haven't seen the field in over a month.

And coach Brian Kelly said Monday that it's because the No. 20 Tigers (5-2) are hoping they can preserve redshirt seasons for both of them: cornerback Ashton Stamps and safety Jardin Gilbert.

"We're trying to protect them," Kelly said. "Both of them. They've both played three games, so if we can, in fact, protect their year, we'll try to."

Neither Stamps, nor Gilbert, has seen the field since LSU beat Florida on Sept. 13. Stamps started 24 games across the previous two seasons, but he’s since slipped down the depth chart behind sophomore PJ Woodland and five-star freshman DJ Pickett.
