Downtown Peoria apartment fire deemed arson as investigator looks for cause

PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - No one was injured after a fire determined to have been intentionally set at an apartment building in Downtown Peoria.

Peoria firefighters were called just after 12:30 a.m. Monday for a reported structure fire at the New Hope Apartments, a five-story building at 301 N.E. Jefferson Ave.

Firefighters arrived to the fire mostly contained by the building’s sprinkler system and entered the affected apartment to extinguish the remaining fire.

The fire was confined to the apartment of origin, and was prevented from spreading further thanks to the properly operating sprinkler system and rapid fire department response, the department said.

Damage is estimated at $200,000 - most of that from water damage due to the sprinkler system.
