A public service honoring Trooper Nicholas P. Cayton will take place Wednesday, October 22, at Youngstown State University’s Beeghly Center. The Celebration of Life is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., with doors opening at noon.

Trooper Cayton, 40, died in the line of duty on October 16 after his marked Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser was hit by a commercial vehicle on state Route 11 in Mahoning County.

Colonel Jones is expected to speak ahead of the service.

Cayton joined the Ohio State Highway Patrol in 2012 as part of the 152nd Academy Class. During his career, he was assigned to the Canfield and Lisbon posts. He also served in the Ohio Army National Guard.

He is survived by his wife, Lynsey, and their two children.
