EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Scammers are at it again, trying to swindle Columbia County residents out of their hard-earned money, according to deputies.
Here’s a look at some recent cases:
Dialing for danger
A Harlem woman told the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office she got a phone call Sept. 29 from someone saying they were with Verizon and was asking if she’d bought two new iPhones.
She answered no, and the caller sent her a text message with a link to click to supposedly report fraud.
After she clicked on the link, her phone shut down and she could not restart it.

The next day, she had to go to Verizon and change her number for her phone to work.
That’s when she saw that the scammer had gotten access to her bank acc
