US President Donald Trump on Monday warned Hamas to uphold the fragile ceasefire with Israel, saying the militant group "must behave" or face violent consequences.

"They have to be good, and if they’re not good they’ll be eradicated," Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, as his administration’s envoys arrived in the Middle East to reinforce the truce.

Trump said the United States would give the ceasefire "a little chance" in the hope that the violence would subside. But he cautioned that continued attacks would invite a tough response.

"If they keep doing it, then we’re going to go in and straighten it out, and it’ll happen very quickly and pretty violently," Trump said, adding that he wasn’t referring to sending US troops but to other countries that had signed on to the peace pla
