NORFOLK, Va. — A fire destroyed a playground at the Broad Creek Legacy Park in Norfolk on Monday.
Norfolk Fire-Rescue was called to the playground at the intersection of East Princess Anne Road and Majestic Avenue at 1:24 p.m. The playground was almost completely engulfed when they arrived, according to Battalion Chief Carrie Jones with Norfolk Fire-Rescue.
Two engine companies extinguished the fire, which was called under control at 1:39 p.m.
Nobody was injured, but park rangers will be condemning the playground today and removing the equipment on Tuesday. The playground was only a couple of years old, Jones said. The cause is under investigation.
The playground is directly across from Richard Bowling Elementary and Jordan-Newby Anchor Branch Library.
