VIRGINIA, USA — As the federal government shutdown enters its fourth week, the effects are beginning to ripple more widely, and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is among the agencies starting to feel the pressure.

While the VA said it remains committed to delivering uninterrupted care to veterans, some non-critical services have already been affected. Career counseling and transition assistance are among the first programs impacted, according to the VA’s updated Human Capital Contingency Plan released ahead of the shutdown, which began on October 1.
