Melbourne food influencer Stacey Hatfield has died after what her family says was a complication during the homebirth of her child.

Ms Hatfield described herself on Instagram as a "Low Tox Nutritionist and Food Content Creator" and she had nearly 20,000 followers.

Her husband Nathan Warnecke said she died on September 29 after giving birth to the pair's first son at home.

He said an "unforseen and extremely rare complication arose" and Ms Hatfield died after being transferred to hospital.

"I knew Stace for 9 amazing years, she was the light of my life and the reason I got up in the morning," Mr Warnecke wrote on Instagram.

" She was my lighthouse in the storm and the world is less bright without her in it. "
