Many concerned Athenians joined in on the ‘No Kings’ protests over the weekend, which organizers report drew more than 7 million participants nationwide.
A couple hundred local progressives protested at the Arch Saturday at a unique tailgate called the “People’s Tailgate.” It was one of three demonstrations in Athens. Their goal was to express fears about the Trump administration.
Attendee Melissa Hawley believes the main issue isn’t attacking President Donald Trump, “It's not really anti the president, or it's not anti Republican. It's civil rights," Hawley said.
UGA fans decked out in red and black passed through all afternoon. Some saw the signs and clapped, though others met the protesters with jeers.
All the Athens protests remained peaceful.
