RICHMOND -- The Richmond Fire Department will begin testing the city's fire hydrants this week.
The City of Richmond announced Monday that the fire deparment is making sure that each hydrant in the city is proper working order before they may be needed in an emgerency.
The city notes that, during these tests, Richmond residents near a openly flowing hydrant may note irregularities in their home water, like air bubbles or discoloration, but these will clear up quickly and water will be safe to use at all testing times.
The Richmond Fire Department conducts hydrant testing every year for proper water flow and adequate mechanical operation. Hydrants that are found to be inadequate will be scheduled for repair or replacement.
