KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Pellissippi State Community College and Kim Health Center broken ground on a new community-based health clinic on Pellissippi State's Magnolia Avenue Campus that will serve uninsured students and East Knoxville residents.

Leaders say the clinic is designed to bridge education and health by giving young adults affordable, preventive care close to class- especially students and working families who earn too much to qualify for assistance but not enough to afford private coverage.

"This project came out of our own patient data," said Erica Lyon, executive director of the Kim Health Center. "We noticed a high proportion of young people seeking care without insurance, which led to discussions with Pellissippi about students' needs."
