WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The Waco city council is set to hear a new ordinance proposal that would change things for traveling animal attractions coming to town.

The Waco Animal Welfare Board is planning to recommend new ordinance options following an outcry from the community when a traveling circus came to Waco last year.

“We got a lot of public interaction at our Animal Welfare Board,” said Ashley Nystrom, Chief of Staff, City Of Waco. “People coming to speak and wanting to see further restrictions on those types of acts.”

Members of the community were concerned that an elephant was not being housed properly.

The new ordinance being proposed is partly in response to those concerns but does not address the housing of animals.
