West Hartford’s first roundabout is causing a round of confusion about how to drive in it.

Although school was out and traffic volume was down, NBC Connecticut spent several hours at the intersection Monday and watched cars drive straight through the roundabout and make traditional left turns inside of it.

A roundabout is meant for incoming drivers to yield to traffic already in the circle. In all cases, cars travel through the roundabout in a counter-clockwise direction.

The new traffic pattern is located at the intersection of King Philip Drive and Old Meadow Road, an area with three schools (King Philip Middle School, Aiken Elementary School and St. Timothy’s Middle School).
