PHOENIX — Gina Swoboda, the chairwoman of Arizona’s Republican Party, announced Monday that she is running to represent Arizona in Congress with a ringing endorsement from President Donald Trump.
Swoboda announced her candidacy for the state’s 1st Congressional District (CD1) in a social media post on Monday afternoon.
“Over the last month, I have been overwhelmed and humbled by the outpouring of encouragement I have received from supporters across this district to run for this seat and keep it in Republican hands,” Swoboda said.
The seat, which represents much of the northeast Valley, including north Phoenix, Scottsdale, Cave Creek and Fountain Hills, is being vacated due to incumbent Rep. David Schweikert’s run for Arizona governor.
