Penn State Athletics Director Pat Kraft is searching for a replacement for former head coach James Franklin . One name that has been mentioned as a candidate for the Nittany Lions opening is Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko.

A former player at the University of Pennsylvania, Elko has the Aggies 7-0 and ranked No. 3 in the country in the latest AP Poll . He has been mentioned by Bruce Feldman and others as a potential candidate at Penn State.

On Monday, Elko responded being linked to the Penn State job.

“I don’t discuss it with my players. I think it’s absolutely hilarious how you guys cover coaches,” Mike Elko said . “I think three weeks ago I was getting fired. Now I’m getting hired. … You don’t want me to stay, but I’m leaving."
