A 16-year-old girl was scratched by a fox while walking home in Fair Lawn, police said.

The incident happened around 3 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, on Berdan Avenue near the train crossing, according to Fair Lawn Police Sgt. Eric Eleshewich.

The girl's mother told police the fox approached her and grabbed onto her leg. She kicked it off and continued walking, Eleshewich said.

The teen sustained a scratch to her leg. Her mother drove her to Valley Hospital, where she was treated and released, police said.
