In addition to the race for mayor, all 51 City Council seats are up for grabs.
One of the most closely watched council races is the contest for District 47 in south Brooklyn.
The district includes the neighborhoods of Bay Ridge and Coney Island, and portions of Dyker Heights, Bath Beach and Gravesend.
Current Councilmember Justin Brannan is term-limited at the end of the year, leaving the seat open.
The two candidates seeking to replace him are Democrat Kayla Santosuosso and Republican George Sarantopoulos.
Santosuosso is a former small business owner who currently serves as chief counsel to Brannan.
Sarantopoulos is the founder of an ATM and credit card processing company.
Early voting for the general election begins on Saturday.
