JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A former Jacksonville high school athlete has lost her battle to osteosarcoma cancer, and the community is coming together to help remember her impact.

Sandra and Ron Waymer say they’re remembering a light that shines brightly: Their daughter, Kennedy.

“She was that happy-go-lucky kid, even when things weren’t going right for her; she’d always have a smile on her face," her parents said.

Kennedy’s softball coach, Steve Brown, says he remembers Kennedy the same way her parents do-- a light that lit every room but was taken too soon.

Kennedy was a standout student-athlete at Paxon High School, playing multiple sports like basketball, volleyball, and most importantly, softball. She was signed for a softball scholarship to the College of Coastal Georgia.
