GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) - The Coalition Addressing The Needs of Unhoused People (CANUP) and Appalachian Regional Coalition on Homelessness (ARCH) reported homelessness has tripled since 2023.
The number of reported homeless have increased from 26 to 87 from 2023 to 2025.
CANUP, a nonprofit organization, appointed by ARCH, provides food baskets, hygiene items, mental health services, clothes and a place to stay for unhoused people to provide a "continuum of care" to the homeless.
Board Vice Chair Lori Grabner told News Channel 11 said while substance abuse, age, and disability have always been factors, the newest growing factor to the influx of homelessness is the increase in the cost of rent.
