KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
The Missouri Department of Social Services says it cannot issue November SNAP benefits because of the ongoing federal government shutdown.
The agency said Monday that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service notified states there is not enough federal funding to release November payments. Advertisement
SNAP benefits are entirely federally funded.
“We are closely monitoring this situation, and benefits will be issued as soon as federal funds become available,” said DSS Director Jess Bax. “We encourage SNAP participants to look at the potential of using their October balance to stretch into November if possible given this situation.”
Feeding Missouri said its food banks are preparing for an increase in demand.
