NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Broad Creek Legacy Park playground was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon, a Norfolk Fire-Rescue spokesperson said.

Norfolk Fire-Rescue responded to Broad Creek Legacy Park for a playground fire at 1:24 p.m. on the corner of East Princess Anne Road and Majestic Avenue near Richard Bowling Elementary School, according to Battalion Chief and public information officer Carrie Jones. When crews arrived, the park playground area was almost completely engulfed, she said, and two engine companies put out the fire.

The fire was declared under control at 1:39 p.m.

There were no reports of injuries.

The playground was several years old, and ribbon cutting ceremony had taken place recently for another update to the area.
