THOMSON, Ga. (WJBF) - The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) and its construction contractor are preparing to shift traffic in McDuffie County later this month.

According to Georgia DOT on Monday, traffic will be shifted at State Route 17 and the Thomson Bypass to a roundabout configuration on Monday, Oct. 27.

The existing all-way stop will be removed and traffic is being shifted to its permanent alignment.

"Shifting traffic to this alignment will allow the contractor to construct the roundabout’s center island," Georgia DOT said in a statement on Oct. 20.

Officials state that drivers should continue driving with caution, as work will continue at this location into 2026. Delays can be expected.

Project completion is currently estimated for spring 2026.
