WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - No decision was made today in the lawsuit between Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams and the Board of Commissioners.

The case centers on a mandamus that Sheriff Williams filed against the county, claiming he is not being given a sufficient budget.

Court started at around 9:30 a.m. Monday with testimony from both sides lasting around eight hours.

Budget dispute at center of case

The main topics included the sheriff’s budget, vehicle maintenance and repair, school zone speed cameras and employee health insurance.

The sheriff’s attorneys argue they have been given a new budget that leaves him in a $2.9 million deficit.

The county argues the sheriff has been given a reasonable budget and is expected to stay within it.
