When the West Allegheny girls’ soccer team learned of its first-round WPIAL Class 3A playoff match, a postseason match became more than just win or go home. It got personal.

For the seniors, it was about redemption. As freshmen, they lost to Thomas Jefferson in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs. They weren’t about to let history repeat itself.

It took an overtime goal from Mia Bardelli, but the job was done. No. 9 seeded West Allegheny defeated No. 8 seeded Thomas Jefferson (10-9-0, 8-2-0), 3-2.
