OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) — Kansas high school softball players and parents say a recent decision to move their state tournaments from Division I stadiums to recreational fields is unfair — especially given no similar announcement has been made for boys’ baseball tournaments.

Last month, the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) informed teams that all state softball tournaments would be moved to the Blue Valley Recreation Sports Complex, with only championship games played at the University of Kansas.

6A teams previously played all state games at KU’s Arrocha Ballpark, and 5A played at Wichita State.

Players from across the state have voiced their frustration.

“It’s just not fair,” Ava Shelley, a sophomore at Lansing High, said.
