BOWLING GREEN, Ky . – Monday evening, 16 boys’ soccer teams began on their journey in the 2025 state tournament, and the 4th region representative hosted its game right here in Bowling Green.

After shutting out South Warren 4-0 in the 4th region championship, the Purples punched their ticket to state for the second consecutive year and geared up to take on the McCracken County Mustangs in the opening round.

The last time these squads met up was in the state tournament in 2022 which resulted in a penalty shootout that saw the Purples take the win.

And the story of Monday’s game would not look much different after 80 minutes of regulation and two overtimes still saw a scoreless match.

Neither team was willing to give an inch until one Mustang’s mental error sent his kick over the net.
