As the father of a son who ended his life at 24 with a handgun, I urge my fellow Mainers to vote “yes” on Question 2 in the Nov. 4 election.

I believe the arguments against it are flimsy compared to saving lives. Nothing can bring back my beautiful son Joel, but maybe others can be saved in this era of mass shootings by unstable individuals. I live with endless grief, and love for a young man who didn’t need to die.
