The Washington State Employment Security Department will host a free virtual webinar this week for federal workers who have been furloughed or laid off due to the federal government shutdown.

The 90-minute session will take place on Thursday, October 23, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and will guide affected workers through unemployment benefits applications, weekly claims filing and available assistance programs.

The webinar is meant for both federal employees and federally-funded state workers dealing with the effects of the shutdown.

Participants will learn about maintaining health care benefits, expanding job skills through training programs, and accessing career guidance and job search resources. The Employment Security Department will cohost the event with Pacific Mountain Workforce Develop
