PORTLAND, Oregon — Outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in South Portland on Monday, protesters remained undeterred after a federal appeals court ruling cleared the way for President Donald Trump to deploy Oregon National Guard troops.
“There is no other option — we are here until the bitter end,” said anti-ICE protester Ren Purkerson. “We’re showing up with whimsy, and they’re showing up with war crimes. Tensions have been high.”
“It seems to me like [troops] are already here,” added protester Jeffrey Cooper. “It’s like one more thing on [Trump’s] bad side of the ledger right now — it’s all Nazi on one side, anarchy on the other — and we need to find a way to have a conversation.”
