UK households have paid £10.8bn in Stamp Duty between January and September this year as HMRC claws back and demands payment. That's according to Coventry Building Society’s analysis of the latest HMRC statistics.
The figures, released from the Labour Party government, mark a 22 per cent increase on the already eye-watering and jaw-dropping £8.8bn paid over the same period last year.
In September, homebuyers paid £1.5bn, compared to £1.3bn in August. This marked an increase despite concerns from sellers and buyers that stamp duty reforms could be pushed through on November 26 as part of Rachel Reeves' Autumn Budget.
